Jeff asked if one of the effects of day 14 was to stop running. He makes me giggle (that is an effect of day 14).
The answer is no, but because I am so busy being entertaining, funny and social I just don’t have time to update the fabulous running tracking tool at breakingthetape.com.
At least that’s my excuse for last Friday. Saturday I did run before our annual christmas runners get together. It was a short pain filled run due to my broken toe. Okay it’s not broken, it’s way more painful than a broken bone.
I was in a rush to get to the run Saturday morning and stubbed my toe …. and this little piggy did go wee wee wee.
This is four days later. The swelling has gone down but it’s black. The picture doesn’t do it justice it’s a 1000 times worse. Not to be dramatic, but no one has ever felt pain like this. Not even being hit by a drive, a wedge and losing a few million in sponsors compares.
The only thing more difficult than walking or trying to gently put my fragile foot into a shoe is taking a picture of your foot.
Here is one of my first attempts.
tip of the day … if you move both the subject and the camera this is the result.
After cramming my swollen, aching toe into my running shoe on Saturday morning, I joined the group for the run. Each step felt like I was thrusting my foot into the coffee table leg again and again. I lasted 3k.
Sunday, mother nature delivered an ice storm, so I opted out of running. Considering I can barely walk it wasn’t a big debate. Instead I went to the gym, were they frown upon bare feet. So I painfully conformed and wore shoes again.
The only thing worse than the torture of footwear is walking around with naked feet, no protection. The world is filled with objects strategically place to attack my toe without warning.
But in true day 14 fashion, I got a bit of one on one from a trainer at the gym. He used the cover of correcting my form. Clearly it was irresistibility and not my positioning. Then I hobbled away … hot!

OUCH! There is nothing worse than stubbing your baby toe, and that looks sooo painful :S
I have stubbed my toe a million times, but never has it turned that black and blue! Woo! You really did a piece on it! I hope it heals soon. Your commentary totally cracked me up
Ouch! Hope you toe feels better soon.
you know, i hurt myself more around the house than i ever do when i’m out on epic adventures. i am the dick van dyke of the running world.
take care of that piggie, ali. give it some roast beef.
OUCCCCH! stubbing toes is AWFUL but wow you really hit that one hard!
Poor little piggy. Hope he doesn’t end up on the plate by the 12th day of Christmas. Have a good one Ali, and catch up with you in 2010.
good to see that you got some miles in. i’m hoping that your recent btt tweet is an indication that the toe is on the mend.
Ouchy! Try taping the toe to the one next to it — it acts as a splint and sometimes helps with the pain …
Jeff, I think we have some mend. Bootchez, great idea, but taping would involving touching the toe … can’t go there!
