I had a plan to run around the bay, that would get me to the finish and cause minimal damage to my bum knee.
Run the flat sections as fast as possible, run the hills and walk the downhills. I was 99% onboard with the save the knee plan, but there was a little hope. A 1% hope that knee was cured. So, instead of going all out for the first 20k, I ran it like I would be able to run all the way.
My 1% hope grew with every km that went by. Until I hit the open metal grate bridge, then my knee reminded me what torture it could inflict upon me.
I thought I could run the hills. No. Actually I could have, but I was mostly using my left leg and dragging bum leg with me. If I keep that up for 10k I would have 2 bum legs.
That’s when I embraced my save the knee save the world plan once again. I walked up. I walked down. When it was flat I ran as fast as I could. Then I walked some more. About 7k of more.
On the plus side, when you walk you recuperate so when I got the op to run I felt really strong.
I finished happy, and able to walk!

Bonus round … I still had a 5 minute pb.
Not to shabby for bummed knee.
Although the walking saved my knee, it created these two beauties.

Aren’t they pretty.
